Would you like to become an impressive speaker or leader? Do you prefer to practise these skills in a no-pressure and fun atmosphere, together with a group of international people? Visit the demo meeting of the Tourism Toastmasters Club of Suzhou!

Many topics during the meetings of the Tourism Toastmasters Club are related to Culture, Travel and Life in an International Environment. Therefore, Suzhou expats and internationally focussed Chinese people with a good level of English are invited to join the weekly TTC meetings. While practising their speaking and leadership skills, members will exchange cultural experiences in a friendly and cosy atmosphere.

BE READY FOR 12 weeks of hard core training and be brave enough to step into the ring on the final night of the Suzhou Showdown!

Suzhou Showdown is a highly prestigious annual black tie event which takes place in 5* hotels. The Showdown uniquely combines a black-tie dinner with a series of boxing matches and various kinds of entertainment. The participants are usually white-collar workers who never trained boxing before, nor had any similar experience.

The first-ever black tie boxing event in Suzhou took place in 2015 at the luxurious Crowne Plaza Hotel. Around 500 people enjoyed a 4-course meal, drinks and 8 white collar boxing fights which got them of their feet for 4 exciting hours!

Until October 20, 2017 | OUR GENERATION - PHOTO EXHIBITION - XIAO QUAN | Wu Jie Museum

Xiao Quan (pronounced Shiao Chou’an), born in 1959 in Chengdu, is reputed in the Chinese photographic circle as the best portraitist in China, especially of women. His fascination of women photography started when he first photographed his grandmother, in 1975.

His work can be distinguished by his unique style; natural and true, and almost all portraits are taken outdoors. His models: women with a “beautiful mind”; remarkable writers, poets, comedians, drama or movie directors, singers, dancers, choreographers, musicians, journalists, TV anchorwomen, models, etc.

September 22 - October 22, 2017 | PHOTO EXHIBITION - THE ENDEARING MUNDANE - by STERLING TOPPINGS | Gallery 4, 7 pm

Sterling is a Suzhou based street photographer that tries to observe human behaviors like an outsider from another planet. For Sterling, the camera is not only a recording device but also a magnifying glass and a mirror. He uses the camera to take a closer look at the way things are, and to reflect on his own identity and place in the world.

The exhibition will be opened on Friday, September 22, 7 pm.
At the opening night, there will be a screening of Sterling’s award winning documentary: “All My Love”.
Guest Artists:
Gao Shiyu, Shi Xinyi, Cui Xinlin, Ding Ruobing, Yu Yuxuan.

Sterling’s photos will be on display until October 22.

Until November 26, 2017 | CHINESE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION | Suzhou Jinji Lake Art Museum

The “Knock the Mountain and Awaken the Tiger” exhibition is part of this year’s Jinji Lake Art Festival.
It showcases 27 groups of sculptures by eight Chinese artists including Huang Zhitao, Liu Ronglu, Qiu Yue, Yang Song, Yin Zhaoyang, Zeng Jianyong, Zhang Wei and Zhi Min.

The exhibition combines modern expression techniques and traditional culture elements including religious murals, Chinese painting and folk sculpture craft.

Until December, 31 2017 | THE STILLNESS OF NIRVANA - HU JUNJUN | True Color Museum

A tour to the grottoes in Gansu Province inspired Hu Junjun, a Buddhist painter, to paint a series of buddhas. Especially two of the smaller, less-famous grottoes, North Grotto Monastery (in Qingyang) and South Grotto Monastery (in Pingliang), each featuring seven grouped Buddha figures, blew her away.
